LANGUAGE TAUGHT: ENGLISH
HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT LIM?

Before I arrived in Brazil I was researching schools and the options for teaching English in Sao Paulo. Even though they didn’t have a website yet, at that stage, I found them on a number of other places online.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO TEACH WITH LIM?

I got a rapid response on my job application, which led to an interview with Julia quite quickly. She was efficient and direct about her and students’ expectations, which I liked a lot.

WHAT DO/DID YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT BEING A LIM TUTOR?

First of all, all of my students with LIM are amazing! They are hard-working, dedicated and generally interesting, fun people to talk to; this makes everything and anything that I do for them worth it. I do a lot more work and go through more trouble for students who are sincere, diligent and enthusiastic about learning and that is something I have found consistently in my students with LIM.

WHAT DO/DID YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT LIM’S APPROACH TO TEACHING LANGUAGES?

I like the flexibility; the coursework creates a basis from which to work, but really every lesson, topic and conversation is tailored to the student’s needs and interests. We use teaching resources compiled by LIM, but no course book; I love this, because then the student and I can determine what to discuss or work on next without having to follow a pre-made syllabus that might have nothing to do with the student’s reality. I find that this makes teaching a lot more fun and rewarding, especially since I can see that the student learns so much faster when they’re talking about something that matters to them.

TUTOR: BARBARA
NATIONALITY: AUSTRIAN
LOCATION: CRACOW, POLAND
LANGUAGE TAUGHT: GERMAN
HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT LIM?

I was browsing the internet for teaching opportunities and I had a school in mind that would offer freedom and creative possibilities for the learners and the tutors. I was not really enthusiastic during my search until I found LIM. Initially, the design of the website appealed to me visually because I enjoyed the tranquility conveyed by the minimalistic design. I then got engaged with the personal approach and international spirit while reading the blog.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO TEACH WITH LIM?

When I first searched the website for visual and practical overview about the school itself and its tutor opening positions, I actually liked it so much that I immediately thought of starting to learn a new language myself! Being a language student on several occasions gave me a taste of what I like and exposure to what to look for in a language school. I told myself, if I like it enough to think about learning a new language with them, then this is the place to become a tutor.

WHAT DO/DID YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT BEING A LIM TUTOR?

On a practical side, I love the flexibility that comes with a location independent job. On a personal side, I feel a really good connection with my learners even though we are miles apart, mainly due to the fact that online lessons allow opening a part of our home without actually intruding into daily life. On the professional side, it gives me a lot of satisfaction to see and hear advancements.

WHAT DO/DID YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT LIM’S APPROACH TO TEACHING LANGUAGES?

From a tutor’s perspective, I love the freedom to use creativity and personal interests of both the learner and the tutor to create lesson plans and I especially enjoy the fact that I do not have to stick to rigid guidelines or inflexible teaching methodologies. And most of all, holding one-on-one lessons means I really get to know my learners. Hence, I can stick to reasonable goals, slow down or increase the speed of the class and check the individual pulse to know we are advancing well. I think all of this contributes to quality and satisfaction.
